The most sacred places of a church would be where Jesus Christ is present.

Jesus Christ is present in four main ways during the Mass:

+ The Eucharist, the real presence of Jesus Christ.

+ The Book of the Gospels, the living Word of the Lord.

+ The Bishop or Priest, the minister ordained in Christ.

+ The Congregation, the Body of Christ gathered together in worship, thanksgiving, and petition.

With love in Christ.

Father K is right about the Altar being considered holy, and he's right about the relics, but I'd suggest that the most sacred place of a Catholic church or cathedral is the tabernacal since that is where the consecrated Eucharist is kept.

All Catholic altars have relics (bones, usually, or a small piece of bone) in them. The Altar is always the most sacred place in any Cathedral.
