Black hairy tongue (lingua villosa nigra) is a POSSIBLE adverse effect of antibiotics, especially broad-spectrum antibiotics. It's harmless and temporary. It can also result from an overgrowth of bacteria and sometimes yeast due to poor oral hygiene and can also be a side effect of therapeutic radiation of the head or neck.

Don't worry, there is nothing you can do about it if you would get it, but it will dissapear by itselves. I know it looks nasty, but....who cares.
There is no cure for it so far. It will last maybe 1 ore 2 weeks. I get that whenever I take antibiotics. Do not try to cut or brush it off. In case you should get it, just wait until it's gone. I got shocked also, when I had it the first time.

Here are some more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_tongue

Hope this side effect won't show up!

ah well that is very mild...if it last longer than 10 days, then you worry. It's called Black Hairy Tongue, could be some bacteria or yeast that you acquired by taking certain medication that contain Bismuth or maybe use a mouthwash that contains peroxide or astringent agents. You can get it from Smoking allot too! Try to brush your teeth well, floss daily and see your dentists often to keep bacteria from forming inside your mouth! good luck

that's probably an extreme side effects - and i'm sure it's very rare.

and i would imagine that would require someone that doesn't drink a lot, or salivate a lot - and who keeps the penicillin on their tongue the entire time
