i'd feel the same way, but i guess you did the right thing. someone must have been going crazy over losing their money, so you made it easier for them to find it. you might not be happy but someone else is happy because of you. so, good job. but i would have kept it until i heard someone lost it b/c you never know if you can trust the h.r lady.

I'd say the best thing to do would be to simply report that you found some money, but don't say how much. Let it be known that you are holding it for the person who lost it. At the same time, don't let it turn into a guessing game, where you give it to whoever guesses the right amount! The person who lost it will have to tell you not only how much, but in what form (one bill, or a combination, or what), as well as exactly where it was lost -or at least where they were sitting- and approximately what time. This way, H.R. has a record of you reporting it, and can direct anybody who reports having lost it, to you. But they don't get to keep it themselves if it goes unclaimed!

You did exactly right...look at how many others here also feel you're one of the good guys!
And yet, what if the H.R. person DID keep it...? I'd send out an internal memo that the H.R. office has some money that was found in the break room, and then sit back and watch what happens.

Don't worry, you did the right thing ;) even though it may seem hard giving those $ 50 back, the person who lost it would be very happy, and think : would you like it if you lost $ 50? some ppl may or may not give the money back, but atleast you did and thats what counts =)

If you're dumb and an idiot, that makes two of us. I would do the same thing. Mater of fact if a store clerk gives me too much change I always tell them they made a mistake. Sometimes they just don't understand and refuse to accept the money due them back.

Try not to feel like an idiot, you did do the right thing and whoever lost it might have needed for something important you may have helped get it back for them

You did the right thing! Good for you.
Now, if you had found it in a parking lot, I would have said keep it, because you wouldn't have been able to find the owner. But at work, they owner will probably come forward.

Because you know that one of your fellow employees lost it and you know that most companies don't pay enough so you would have felt bad knowing that this may have been someone's last $50 to buy groceries for their kids until the next payday. You did good!

You did the right thing. You should be proud of what you have done. Karma always comes back to you. And lets hope the other person followed the proper procedures and it gets back to the right person.

"This is a test, pass or fail." Looks like you passed with flying colors! But what will probably happen is the person you gave it to will pocket it and it will never be returned to the owner.
But you get good karma for being a decent human being.
