While I'm not sure about axes, there are several group that train in European medieval swordsmanship out there, based on the manuals left by long-dead masters such as the anonymous fellow who wrote I:33, Fiore dei Liberi, Johannes Lichtenhauer, Sigmund Ringeck and Hans Talhoffer.

Now, this is NOT fencing. This is NOT mindless hacking and slashing like too many view medieval swordfighting. These styles are well-developped, relying on timing, footwork, leverage, precision and initiative to function and no matter what anyone else says, they are true martial arts.

As it has been said, look up swordforum.com. However, for true historical styles, stay away from the SCA.

Like nm_angel_eyes said, yes there are.

I don't know about any martial arts with axes, but they do exist.

As for swords, there are martial arts dealing with swordsmanship from many different parts of the world. For all the different types of swords out there also exists a school of swordsmanship for that type of sword, and of course some have even more.

There is a really good site about swords and swordsmanship called Sword Forum International. They deal primarily with swords, but they may be able to help you with axes as well. Here is there site:

If you're talking Asian styles (more commonly known) - For

Chinese:

There are many Kung Fu's that deal with swords, especially the straight (Tai Chi or Gim) and the Broadsword. Many will be taught after many years, though there are a few schools that will teach you swords right off the bat.
I know of two in particular though one is only in Australia(don't know where you're calling from): www.grtc.org (has branches in a few places).
The other one (Gold Coast, Australia), which teaches combative sword to anyone willing to learn, I can't find the website sorry.
As for Axes, Shaolin (more commonly connected with) teach that though I'm not sure if they'll teach it to non monks. And they have several: hand, double edged and poled.

Japanese:

KenJutsu (sword arts):
Kendo and Iado are all sword styles dealing with Katana, No-dachi and the smaller knife.
Kendo use Shinai and a lot of padding - you may have seen them on TV and they are a contact competition.
Iado deals with drawing from the sheath, striking and then re-sheathing so fast that your opponent has no time to react. The fast draw of the East.

Not too sure about the axes, but many martial arts practice swordfighting. The most prominent is probably Kendo, but Karate also teaches weaponry to the advanced students.

Sword fighting would be Samurai style. I'm not sure if you can take just that.

Bodo Taijuitsu (I'm not sure if I spelled that right) is part Ninpo (historical lineage to the ninjas) and part samurai. You deal with swords, bo staffs, long corn huskers (no kidding) and various other weapons.

Who knows, they may have axes.

However, you only get to those things as you go along the process. Up until then however, you are learning some serious, bone breaking, kick @** moves.

PS. They do not do actual tournaments, and many practices are done in slower motion because many of the moves are designed to "win quickly" and go home safely.
