I used to work at a place that had Daewoo. I sold a couple of them that were 2001 Model year Leganzas in the end of 2003 and early 2004 for less than $8000 with sticker prices of over $23000 on the window.

The factory offers incentives that allows them to lower the price until it sells. Don't think, however, that you are going to get a car for half price. They will sell long before that. It's a good way to get a deal on a new car if you are not too picky about colors and options.
Cadillac had problems selling the Catera a few years ago, and had to stop production for a year while they sold off all the previous years production. This is the exception, however, rather than the rule.

When the new models come out the old ones are discounted and sold. If a dealer has one that is 2 years old, you will get a good buy on it or they just like having it around.

I work at a dealership, & that hasn't happened... they go on "sale" halfway thru the year; the remaining ones have BIG "price cuts" with huge discount price tags on them, & the salespeople get a bonus if they sell the older, hard to sell cars. Plus they can trade them with other dealerships that might sell more of the particular model. Otherwise, I've seen them used by staff as a "company car" & worse come to worst, RESALE! (Used car lot)

They sell them. It's highly unusual for a car to sit on a dealer's lot for a year. Most move within a few months at most.

They dont own them when they are that old. That is why you can get good deals on a 2006 in 2006 because they will have the 2007 out.

they sell them to a wholesaler. This is a purchaser who then finds the best independent dealers across the nation to resale them to for a little profit over what they spent.

they will not keep it around for that long. if its new, but a year old or more, something must be un-appealing about it, or it would have sold. ugly color, no options, etc. these cars will go to auction somewhere, or sometimes the mfr. will take them back. this is rare, though.
