I tried renaming them with the .jpg extension but when I go to upload them so that I can create a slideshow (using Yahoo! Photos or Snapfish or PhotoBucket, etc) they still won't work. I'm new to capturing photos with my new webcam. Please help. Thanks!

They need to be converted for it to work.

If you're using Windows XP, you can open them in Windows Picture Viewer by either double clicking or right clicking on the image if it's been assigned to something else, select "Open With" and select "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer." Once it's open in that, click the little disk icon (if you hover over it, it'll say Copy To) and change the 'save as type' to JPEG.
