first it depends on how deep the cut is. if it is just at the surface and easily stopped bleeding just keep it clean, let it air out, also if you are doing anything that could get dirt into it or any foreign body put something on it to keep it clean. other wise don't put anything on it.
if it is a deep wound you should have gotten stitches, so just keep antibacterial ointment on it, keep it clean, and keep fresh clean bandages on it.

I always carry in my back pack a tube of NEOSPORIN or POLYSPORIN for occasional cuts at work. Last week I was slicing ham and since I keep my knives very sharp, I had sliced my thumb before I was aware of it. I wrapped a bandage around it with Neosporin and after 2 days, I was healing nicely. Now, there's just a slight line on my thumb. No, I don't get a kick back for telling this. he he

If it's not too deep (as in you need stitches..), buy a box of Band-Aid Liquid Bandage. They give you little wands and a bottle of medical "superglue". You don't have to use anything other than that. That stuff works wonders! It pretty much instantly takes any pain away..and actually allows you to function normally. It's waterproof and lasts for days. It also works well for blisters. Good luck! =)
