Good question, Jill........unless it's a plain cheese pizza, 24 hours it's still edible.......now, if there is a meat product or veggies on it, I'd toss it after 8 hrs.......just to be on the safe side, and BTW, think about pizza parlors that keep room temperature pizzas in their display cases (for those of us who just like a slice or two) up to all day long, in all weather conditions.....Also, the tomato sauce is quite acedic, and will inhibit the growth of unwanted pathogens......

I understand this two hour rule, but really people.......I'm sure you have cooked something and left it on the stove for more than two hours.......I'd say overnight is long enough for something that should be refrigerated. I know when I grew up, my dad would start dinner while I ate breakfast and that stuff wasn't put away until at least 9 PM that night, and leftovers were more than fresh so I don't know what to make of this rule.

after four hours above 40 degrees F, mold can start to grow - you won't see it for a long time though

people leave the pizza out for up to a day, and still eat it, and i've never heard of a case of this making anyone sick. however, the people who would do that usually are at the prime of their life, and their immune systems are probably stronger anyway, than the average person

Everyone I went to college with is still alive and healthy after 25 years. We kept pizza at room temp for as long as it lasted til someone ate the last piece. I'm sure that it is OK for at least a week.

I would NEVER leave it out at room temp more than 2 hours! It takes about an hour for it to get at room temp, then thats when the bacteria starts to form and grow....eww! I dont recommend eating pizza left out or anything else at room temp!

If you're trying to make penicillin, I'd keep it out for a few days. Then you can eat it to keep away that strep throat thing that is floating around...
