Help!! I am 15 years old and I have had chronic pains in my knees and hips, and sometimes my elbows. Can anyone please tell me first off, if they ARE growing pains, and if so, what can I do to make the pain go away?? I am pretty tall, and average weight. The pain creeps up about every two weeks, and especially when it gets really cold or if it rains. Thank you!!

There are such things as growing pains, but your condition doesn't really sound like them.

Growing pains usually end before you become a teenager. Plus, they are in the muscles, not the joints, and almost always in the legs, sometimes the arms, not usually the hips.

There could be a number of reasons for these pains, some of which are serious, go see your family doctor.

You should see your doctor because I had basically the same symptoms when I was 11. My parents thought they could be growing pains too, but I just got some simple bloodwork done, and I was diagnosed with Juvenille Rheumatoid Artheritis. And cold can also aggrivate JRA, so talk to your doctor if you haven't already.

There is such a thing as growing pains...my daughter was diagnosed with it, hers was in her knees.

However, I really would get this checked out at the doctor as there are other things that fit your symptoms too. Make that appointment today.

Best wishes.

I highly recommend you see a doctor about this if it's been going on for awhile. You should check out this link about Juvenile Arthritis and ask your Doctor about it:

It could just be a reaction, or, growing pains! I would think it was a reaction to water, if you have allergies, it could be acting up! Are you excrising too much? It could be that! Or maybe stress, it is kinda hard to tell...tell your doctor, he'll help more than I did!!!
Your welcome!
