if you have the physical ability you might consider what works for me
get some aerobic exercise daily (gradually build up your exercise session to 30 minutes then gradually build up to 45, 60 minutes)
the best way without doubt is jogging (start with fast walking and do not increase your distance too soon)
you can also use an elliptical machine or stationary bike
do not drink soda pop or eat fried foods or buttery foods
drink a lot of water and tea
go vegetarian and eat small meals each day such as fruit and oatmeal and rice & beans
make soy protein drinks if possible because its important to make sure you get enough protein when trying to lose weight
let me know how it goes

I sympathize much. I lost 84 pounds when I was 20-21. I knew I had to do 2 things: Eat less (or eat better), and exercise. Running didn't feel good to my knees either. I changed my eating habits literally overnight from horrid to terrific. 1st year however I lost nothing! Then I got a bicycle (10 speed) and rode 5 miles or more every day. In cold weather I did simple calisthenics in doors. 2nd year it all came off. Not once did I weigh myself either, but my pants went from size 42 (mens) to 32 (which went up to 34/36 quickly and which I stayed at for a loooong time. It's tough, but you can do it!

Healthy Weight Loss = 2-3 lbs week.
You can do it.

I would recommend going to Weigt Watchers (WW) to learn how. If you have more money and want more support, LA Weight Loss and Jenny Craig also are good at teaching you to eat to drop 2-3 lbs a week.

Personally, I had to stop exercising and forcus on learning to eat. It's easier than you think --- especially if you have support of a group (WW) or counceiling. In fact, you should be able to acheive a loss of 50 lbs by July if you get on a program.

Remember to find ways to nurish your inner being along the way ... weight loss is very psychological.

My method is not eating more than 2000 calories a day. The daily values on foods are all about the 2000-calorie diet. I find I lose about 2 pounds a week. You can have whatever you want, but just not to much.

Sharon you sound like you on the right track just keep up the great work and it will all come together. When you eat chicken do not eat it with all that breading plain is good and it has to be skinned. Stay away from breads also keep up the great work
