While it seems straightforward, this can also get complicated. Etiquette calls for the man to hold the door for the lady. But what if the door opens inward? Then the man goes first, holding it open for her to follow. The moment they are in, the man should be close beside the lady, or directly behind her. When going to a table, the man should lead. But if a head waiter escorts the couple to a table, the lady goes first, behind the waiter, followed by the man. Whether or not the waiter seats the lady, the man remains standing till the lady is seated. Going OUT of the restaurant, with the door swinging inward, the man will hold the door, and immediately overtake the lady, taking up a position between her and the street. When approaching doors that swing outward, into the sidewalks, it's a good idea for the man to subtly switch places with the lady, or move slightly ahead of her, so he can catch a suddenly-opening door before it hits her. Passing a dark doorway or alley, again the man switches places, to be between the lady and any potential danger. Entering a car, the gentleman allows the lady in, and closes her door before going around to his side. These days, it's also helpful and tasteful for the man to lock her door before stepping away from it as well.

Ok...holding the door open for a lady should be done on most occasions except straight into restuarants...The guy should go in first to 'take charge of the situation' like if you have reserved a table you would obviously know what name the table is under instead of throwing your date in first. The man is also supposed to provide the details if the table isn't reserved like the number of people and whether smoking or non smoking...hope that helps.

depends on what youre armed with. if youre clearing the place in a raid it is proper etiquite for the man to kick down the door and jump in, followed by the lady. this is when the man is armed with a more powerful weapon than the female. however, if the door is bolted the man should use a shotgun with an entry load on the lock, then open the door for the female to enter first.

entering in a bar or restaurant requires that the man goes in first that is because if the bar or rest is crowded, the woman if pretty will attract the looks of every man in the house thus feeling embarassed. the only exeption is if you are entering a five stars restaurant where customers are expected to knowsome etiquette

Although rarely if ever acknolwedged anymore by the ladies, I always let the ladies go ahead of me unless the door to a place opens inwards (into the building) and I will go in first and hold it for her.

Frankly, I prefer if my husband leads into a strange or new place. I don't stand on ceremony - in fact I have always thought the men let the women go first for the view mostly.

Peace!

It may seem that girls don't care much about who goes in first, but u will find women don't always show their feelings about things that aren't worth arguing over. If u open the door for them trust me they'll notice, but once inside u should guide her to the table and seat her. It is very polite, and women find men w/ courtesy very attractive. Besides it can't hurt to open the door for ladies even ones u don't know, unless they already have a date, who knows it might help. good luck.

The man opens the door and holds it for the lady because it is polite, and shows the lady respect. TRUST ME
