If you want the truth...
If is very weird, not to mention inappropriate and suggestive, for you to give your friend's WIFE lingerie. A man gives a woman lingerie or anything closely related to it only under the circumstances if the two of them are in an intimate relationship. In other words, a couple.
Women are often more in tune with what is right and what is wrong as far as giving and receiving gifts go. If she had accepted your gift, that would have meant that she also accepts the fact that the two of you are more than just friends.
If you were to give her a sweater or a foulard of the same color, that would be okay. But lingerie? Not only does it give the message that you thought of her wearing it when you bought it, but it also makes it seem as if you and her have something going on.
And if your friend knew about this, there's no saying what he might think or do.

You bought your male friend's wife lingerie? Don't you think that was a bit personal? She and he both may have been offended by what may have appeared to them as an "invitation." I know I wouldn't be comfortable if a man other than my significant other gave me lingerie.

That is an inappropriate gift! If your friend found out he would be worried and suspect she is cheating with you. What's wrong with you??? I can't believe you did or asked that. if you want to match her eyes give her a blue purse or sweater.
