We have a neutered, male, 1 year old cat and a 1 year old female cat. Within the past week, the male has started to meow continually at our attic door and at our front door (both of which are right next to our bedroom) between 5AM and 9AM and at other intervals throughout the day. He always has dry food and I always get up at 6AM to feed him wet food. He has toys, he has a friend (our female cat), we open windows for him so that he can look outside, we pet him and give him more attention than he even wants. He has everything that he could possibly need. We are very, very tired and really need some uninterrupted sleep. What can we do?

My suggestion is to take him to the vet. I had a cat that did that for a spell and died of heart worms! It might be nothing but an adventurous need to get outside, but it might be more. You should check it out with the vet. Is it ok if he goes outside? Maybe he just wants out more.

We are having the same problem. One of our four cats meows mercilessly at night until we let him out, then goes to the window an hour later and does the same thing to be let back in. And on and on at intervals all night. My husband is threatening to drop it off at the SPCA if he loses any more sleep, and I don't blame him although I don't have the heart for that. Has anyone tried cat tranquilizers or sleeping pills for this sort of problem?

We had the same problem our cat. Zack always wants too go outside he will meow and meow until we let him out what we did was put him in a room at night and shut the door. This way he wouldn't be bye any doors so he wouldn't want too go outside and you wont here him cry at night. Just make sure you put water and food in the same room as him and put the female in there with him also a good room to do this would be the room with there litter box so they are familiar with the room.

You might want to take a look up in your attic..there might be something living up there..a squirrell or possum maybe? Or birds in your eaves and he sees them going up in there from the outside and knows they're up in the attic after they enter. Look up in the eaves above your front door or somewhere around there and see if there is a hole or some small entry for a small animal to crawl up and eventually get into your attic. You might not hear what ever it is shuffling around up there..but your cat's ears are better than yours and he can probably hear something up there.

You know your cat's behaviour better than anyone. If your cat is behaving abnormally or unusually, a vet visit is a $30 ticket to your peace of mind and your cat's good health.

And, most of us would rather believe our cat is just acting up or acting weird than trying to tell us something is wrong, so we sometimes just don't bother to have them checked out until it is too late.

Hopefully, your cat just has a bad case of the blues but, can't hurt to call the vet, can it?
