Paint thinners are not all the same in terms of composition or effectiveness and are generally used to dilute oil based paints and to remove unwanted fresh paint from surfaces,painting implements, brushes etc...

It has many uses, first off, it thins paint. It comes in handy for do-it-your-selfers and artists. It removes layers of paint and works really well when trying to thin out oil colors. It can also remove paint from brushes and other surfaces.

if your into graffiti, and make homemade markers, you can get your favorite color of paint, bucket paint that is, and put the amount you want in a jar and mix it with the thinner to where its juicy with alot of drips or just enuff to where it comes out the nib right. p.s. for a good homemade marker,, super permanent too, get a thing of kiwi shoe polish in the bottle with the soft nib and pop of the top and dump out the shoe stuff and put the paint i told you how to make in it or go to micheals or somewhere and get permanent ink then to your local auto store to get DOT 3 brake fluid and put about 4 drops of it in the container and shake it up good.. now when you tag and they buff it, it leaves a ghost tag ( a faint tag where they buffed it and it eats into the paint...try it and see.

you cant use water do clean oil baseed paint so you usually use iit to clean brushes and make paint thinner for painting
