I had viruses on my pc and decided the best way was to format. With XP it is of course a different story from Windows 98 where you merely go to the C prompt and say Format c. With XP, insert your CD (after you went into teh BIOS and changed the BOOT drive to be CD. Folow on screen. I do not know how old your pc is, but I would suggest you do the NTFS partition when it askes you whether you want to format the partition using FAT32 or NTFS. Thereafter the installation will run itself. Good luck. One thing though - as long as you have all your other software and data safely on cds, should something go wrong with the XP installation, it is easy to quickly redo. I hope this helps you.

Put the disc in your cd/dvd drive and start the installation like usual. Win XP SP2 installation process should be much easier than win xp since the SP2 has all kind of fixes, updates and drivers.

If the format went ok, and you reinstalled xp back on with no problems, go ahead and install sp2, sp2 does not like being installed on an infected machine etc, but seen as you have formatted and reinstalled xp you should have no probs with sp2

Well, if you have any Windows XP system, then SP2 will work. I used it on mine, worked perfectly. But I never had to format my hard drive for that.
All you have to do is put the disk in. Then follow all instructions.
Good luck!

Lorraine,
This link should do it: http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
What you are doing is a Clean Install and it is probably the best was to do an install with out much headache. If you prefer you can get the .PDF file and just print it for reference as you go through the steps.

Best of luck,

It won't attempt to load over sp3. Secondly, why are you trying to reinstall your OS? You CLEARLY do not have enough disk space and sp3 isn't causing the problem. Its all the crap you have on the drive. Clean some of it out. Store some on an external hard drive. When you get some hard drive space, do a defrag

Just put the disk in and follow the prompts. It's pretty easy, and you can always try again.
