Yes, you need the high school degree to get into college. That is unless you plan on going the route of two years of Jr college / Community College. I have known people to do that route.

Do not be shortsighted of the main goal which is to learn. If you are not learning right now then try to get into higher level classes.

You didn't say how close you are to graduating high school. If you are close, I would say quitting is not the thing to do. You also didn't say why you didn't want to finish high school. You can not take a GED until your highschool class graduates.

I work at a State college. All in all, the high school diploma doesn't really matter as long as you have a GED. You really don't have to work your *** off anymore than if you graduate high school. You should do that no matter which route you take.

Many people do not realize that college is completely different from high school and if you start college with the wrong attitude, you won't make it. You have no teacher standing over you, making sure you do your work. It's your responsibility and they won't force you to go to class or study. It's all on you. A lot of younger kids can't handle that freedom and screw up their freshman year.

Good luck to you which ever you decide. BUT do one or the other, don't screw yourself out of an education. It's something you will need and it's something no can take away from you once you achieve it.

You may have to start at a community college. Do well in your courses and transfer to a 4 year state school. A disadvantage to the GED and starting college is that you may have to take more basic type courses, since you would not have them in high school. for example, math 101 vs. calculus. I would try to stay in high school if that is possible, in the long run you will learn more.
It may come back a kick you in the butt and it may not. It is kind of up to you. Good luck with your decision
