Christmas has pagan roots. It used to be several different festivals, depending on which part of Europe we look at. The Latin people celebrated Saturnalia, to celebrate the birth of the sun god. It was basically a period of revelry and celebration. Up north, Yule was celebrated, which yields us many traditions as decorating trees and a gift-giving figure.
The Catholic Church basically took an old holiday and slapped new labels on it so that it was still commonly celebrated.

So the actual roots of Christmas go further back than, "Jesus was born, let's give each other presents and decorate evergreen trees!"

Your answer, it was pagan to begin with, and it has few religious remnants which enforce the Christian spirit of it so that non-Christians feel excluded.

Actually, you ought to look into why Christians ought to celebrate Hannakkuh. It has a lot of relevance to the faith. (The ruler at the time didn't want the savior to be born so he destroyed the temple...)

Right before Jesus died, he said "I hope people celebrate my birthday by hacking down trees to put in their house, so they can give gifts to people."

Atheists celebrate Christmas for the same reason the Japanese do. Because its a gift giving holiday that was around way before the hung Jesus up to dry.

We celebrate his rise from death by hunting Easter eggs. All these traditions were derived from older festivals that pagans celebrated.

Of course they do. It's no longer celebrated as a religious holiday. It hasn't been in, I would say over 100 yrs. at least. Some people may spend an hour observing it original meaning. But the rest of the time is spent on shopping and partying. It's all about material stuff.

But of course we do. It starts on November 1st, and noone can escape the season unless you dont have a TV, a PC or a radio. Xmas is all about profit and commercialism for businesses. Anyway we buy the toys the kids demand, put up the tree and stockings and tell the kids that Santa visits us only at night when we are asleep,

Why do you ask?
Is there some other reason for Christmas that I am not aware of?

They like the holiday spirit and the present-giving. Also, it's co-ordination on a national scale: everyone in the country is taking a holiday, so you might as well!

(BTW, to correct one of your answers:
"Other words for Muslim

Until the late 1980s, the term Moslem was commonly used. Muslims do not recommend this spelling because it is often pronounced "mawzlem" /mɒzlɛm/ which sounds somewhat similar to an Arabic word for "oppressed" (Za'lem in Arabic).[citation needed] The word is pronounced /muslem/ in Arabic, but often /mʊślɪm/ in English. The word is now most commonly written "Muslim". " )

I expect they celebrate it as a family holiday rather than as a religious event.

And it is not your place to deny them or any non-Christian group the opportunity to celebrate Christmas however they choose.
