Apparently, it depends on who you ask. If you are Catholic, you might say the Pope, but not necessarily. If you are a non-denominational Christian, you might say God. A Muslim could say Allah. Absolutely anyone might tell you that YOU are the authority, while anyone religious could say that the God or the Gods are the authority. Still, others might tell you that it is a joint authority. That is a question that deserves a personal opinion for an answer.

For Christians God is the Supreme Being. Mere mortals claim to be the authority however. Ever heard Dubya justify some of his decisions?

Religion tends to be empty and lifeless.
A relationship with God however is fulfilling and he is authoratative.
God knows all things and many times will bring forth the wisdom of the heavens and earth through us.

because we are all very unique and one thing will not make sense to another
we should only trust ourself in these matters
