He is a young guy originally from California who settled in the Midwest. He has raced everything go-carts, midgets, sprint cars and others after a bumpy year in Bush Grand national, Ray Evrenham and Rick Hendrick spotted a working project. What happened was history. A relatively small stature young guy has instant success. I think old die hard fans are still in a state of shock and rejection because of his very early success. Some will say that anyone can be successful in a Hendrick car. Think a minute. Rick and Poppa Joe started out with two cars with Geoff Bodine as the driver. They fed off each other. Geoff brought power steering from is modified days, the first full faced helmet against total opposition of everyone in NASCAR. Early on they didn't even build their own engines, I believe B@R Speed Shop in Winston Salem and Waddell Wilson got them going. You think Jeff Gordon received a silver spoon guess again. The first sprint car he owned was built by Lee "Oz Cars" Osborne who now resides on a hill outside of Penn Yan, NY. You'll never see his car loose in the corners. He drives with precision unless it's payback time and a Ford is virtually stopping in the corners. The Ford lovers have to understand It took a better handling car and more speed to first get to Kenseth and I guess retaliation is OK because of what happened at Bristol earlier in the season.

He is a great racecar driver, I'll give you that. However, I'm not so sure about the polite and good guy part. Yes, he has charities and has been helpfull to the community, however, in my opinon he is very stuck up. Before I even knew his number I didn't like him, becuase I heard him on his radio saying something or other that sounded stuck up.

Also, he is a constant complainer, even if he has no reason to be. For example, at the newly repaved Talladega he was complaining about Jr. Bump Drafting him to the front. And then there was that time this year where it seemed the whole race he was whinning about how someone (forgot who) could have passed him cleaner, even though the cars never touched and it was fine.

Also when Matt Kenseth was I think apologizing to him (I didn't see it) Jeff Gordon pushed him. And then when someone else was apologizing (Scott Riggs maybe) Jeff Gordon was being VERY rude to him.

In many people's opinion he's a rude jerk, and not many people like that.

Im a Jeff Gordon fan always have been and always will be no matter what anyone says, everyone is just jealous because he is such a great race car driver and if you talk to anyone in NASCAR like the drivers and crew they will all say that and thats why he gets alot of respect from new drivers and everything and people dont like him because of his looks or his voice or they think hes gay, or stupid stuff like that its not a big deal and they think he cheats but everyone has at one time or another and he loves helping out kids and its a nice guy and its obvious to anyone on and off the track.

Jeff is a great driver. But many resent him because he came in to the sport with all the best equipment and money handed to him. Before J.G., a driver had to drive a lot of crap cars before getting a good ride. You had to EARN the better rides. Would Jeff had been as successful (as early, anyway) had he come in with a much lesser team than the Hendrick organization? Hard to say.

I didn't like Gordon when he started because everything was handed to him, kind of like Dale jr. I am still not a big fan. I like Petty Enterprises. Kyle may not be the best driver, but he is a true sportsman. He is respectful of everyone and his off track accomplishments are unequaled.

Gordon came into the sport and began winning, beating out the seasoned drivers like Dale Jarrett and Bill Elliott and even Dale Earnhardt Sr., who all had large fanbases. Now they may not like him because he is a bit of a complainer.

I think it's jealousy. He was a great young driver and won a lot of races and championships early in his career. A lot of people hate it when one driver wins a lot. And he was very good looking, the All American Boy. Also I'm sure people were jealous because his stepdad had the money to make sure he had a really GOOD ride in USAC, which took him to BGN .... He is a great driver.

He seems polite and a good guy, but I've never tried to get an autograph from him. My favorite drivers are Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne. The had to use only their talent to get them where they are today, not money.

I really don't like him mainly because he is quick to point blame on other drivers if they are racing him hard and forcing him to fight for his position instead of them giving it up to him and moving out of the way. He will race anyone hard or be the first to bump and run them for a position and he just says "Hope they understand tomorrow but It was just hard racing." If he wins.
Then "I don't understand why anyone would put me into the wall with that many laps left. They should have showed me more patience I would have moved over the next lap. That was just uncalled for and I will get them back soon."
In other words I think Jeff Gordon is nothing but a hypocrite on his racing style. I think more people would like him more if he raced hard and if he wins doing it great. If not he just doesn't cry and goes onto next week.
