You probably didn't think about this, but, your ex's daughter behaves the way she does, because her mother allows her to. And, has for a very long time. So, while the mother may be "good lady", she might want to work on being a "good mother". An 11 year old, should know what her boundaries are, and if she doesn't it's because the parent hasn't identified them. You were right to leave, as that child's behavior was indicative of the mom she has, but, you haven't really met.

Could you give more details on the daughter. Is the kid not wanting her mother to be involved with you b/c she thinks her mom should be with her Dad or something?

If you still love her, is there no way you and she could talk about her out of control daughter and figure out something? However if the mother is accepting of her daughter acting like a brat and disrespecting others then no it's not wrong for you to want to not have to deal with that.

Daughter is hard to please because DAD is the only man she wants in her, her mom's life. If the two of them are worth the strain, eventually things can be great between you and the two of them. If you do not have the patience for this sort of thing, then breaking up is the smart thing to do. Another guy who welcomes the challenge of her daughter, will come along and eventually make all three of them a family.

Well, I think you did right. To make ohter people happy you have to be happy first. I hope that lady should overcome this break-up quickly. Can't you guys be just normal friends again?. I think you guys should give her daughter some time maybe things will come back to normal again. She is just 11 , its hard for her really to accept you. Maybe you should spend some quality time with her. I hope this works.

Part of a long term, committed relationship is accepting the person and all of the 'baggage' they come with. If you couldn't handle everything about the person you were dating, then it's better for both of you to move on. Otherwise, you'd just have more problems later on down the road.

You did the wrong thing you should of tell her that the daughter is not friendly to me. Instead of breaking up with her for her daughter. She didn't even know.
