I'm not a Satanist, myself, but I know a little on it.
First of all, it's atheistic. No, there is no worship of the devil. The devil is a purely Abrahamic concept. Satanists are more concerned with doing what, according to Christian teachings, Satan tried to do. Satan tried to become God. Satanists imitate this in an effort to become God.
Second of all, it's not an anarchic religion. There are moral codes: equal judgment for the crime, don't harm women or children, etc. The rest is up to your personal moral code. Just because there's not a God to say cheating on a test is wrong, for example, doesn't mean that you don't think so.
Thirdly, there is an interest in the Occult. Crowley is called the "Father of Satanism", but I believe he was more of a metaphysicist. This is really up to you, whether or not you want to do magick.
The symbol is the inverted pentagram. It was probably chosen because of the negative connotation around it. You'll have to do some more research.
Go to www.religioustolerance.org for their essays on Satanism/Church of Satan. One of those may be what you had in mind, I'm just listing what I remember (which could be wrong- I have been known to make mistakes before, twice even!).

Be careful what you wish for. Satan has great power over the mind. He causes people to kill,rape,molest, and all kinds of evil stuff. Satan cannot control the mind of a saved person but he can a non-believer. accept Christ. He will never leave you or forsake you.

I have talked to a couple of LeVay followers (Church of Satan) They were really atheists who used the name to poke fun at the religious. They were also hedonists. Don't know if that is always true, but with these guys it was.

this is a cult, not a religion.
it had more followers in the 80s, the times of the metal music. the followers are usually "sociely defected" teenagers (i dont know the word in english, maybe outcast?) they listen to dark music and they group with others like them and do blood raleted acts, i think some involve killing cats.
im not one of them so maybe im wrong.
