Why do we so often see a desparate attempt to portray Judas in the vilest terms (entries in the Catholic Encyclopedia, certain passion plays, supression of the Gospel of Judas, ingnoring all the gospels that are more ambiguous, e.g.) when in fact there are so many indicators that it was his suicide and not his preordained act, allowing Jesus to cleanse the world of its sins that damned him? Some of the earliest sources indicate that Jesus actually asked him to do what he did. Why not leave it as ambiguous as it really is?

It was fascinating to see how many people dodged the entire question when I tried to forestall the riduculous claim that catholics are not christians. Then they all wanted to take that opportunity to prove some unrelated point.

The rest went ahead and spouted the propaganda they learned all their lives instead of thinking.

Robee, your dad is a great man, brave, discerning and forthright.

Beekay, Jesus did not and would never lead Judas to any kind of sin. What part of the word "preordained" do you not understand?

Jesus himself was capable of being mistaken. The most well known example is, "God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

My dad is minister. I have known that since I was little. My dad always taught us about the Bible. He said the Bible can be interpreted many ways. We would go over scriptures and he would show the ways they could be interpreted. I always keep an open mind. My faith in God will never waiver.

Explain to those that Judas first accepted the bribe.
then how he betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
then how he threw the money back to the Pharisees, admitting he had betrayed innocent blood.
then hung himself, obvious over guilt for the wrong without repentence.

If you want proof that Catholics do not follow the Bible they claim they worte, I'll be glad to share with you the differences. I am a former Catholic.

You've already asked this question.

I will answer again - Christianity believes that we are all granted free will. If free will was not 100% at play in Jesus' life, passion, and death, his resurrection would have been little more than a trick all set up by God. Judas acted with free will.

To believe this is to not believe everything Jesus and the Word of God teaches. God calls Judas a son of perdition. It doesn't get much clearer that that. and to portray Jesus as some kind of sneak or somehow leading Judas to this great sin is to deny all He taught.

Matthew 26:21
And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Judas, most absolutely acted on his own free will. He wanted Jesus to be the Warrior Christ, that is what they were looking for, not this benevolent Jesus, who forgave sinners. Judas was totally disappointed in Jesus and had no trouble turning him over to the authorities, for money yet. He committed suicide because he realized the Jesus was the Messiah after all. Jesus told him to do what he had to do, because God knows all things. Including why you are so arrogant.

hi,
He did exercise free will and Greed, in turn he lost his eternal life and is in the grave for betraying God's son without a chance of Resurrection. It wasn't suicide that condemed him it was his betrayal he was fully convince that Jesus was the Messiah but betrayed him anyways so it wasn't ignorance either. The bible in the new testament says he knew what he was doing.

it's quite possible he was just doing his job.. :) we'll never really know. i don't know why some people see it as heretical to even bring up the possibility. the more we seek and question does not mean we are not believers....!
