Have you thought of adopting a dog from your local SPCA, humane society which are both no-kill organizations and some foster the dogs in their car to make sure that the animals are in a loving home environment until they can be found a forever home. Also what is so wonderful is that if your look on-line for a humane society they will have pictures of the available dogs and the bios of the dogs tell all about them and what kind of home setting that they are best suited to, and to top it off the adoption feeds are a lot cheaper than if you just bought a dog and the dogs have been checked out and given all of their shots.

As others have said, it depends on your lifestyle, the amount of space you have for the dog to run and play. Other things too. Some dogs are good with children, some aren't. Some dogs will protect your house, some will let the burglars in and show them where the silver is. But, whatever breed you decide on, don't "buy" a dog, unless you get one from a reputable breeder who is breeding to advance the quality of the breed. Get one from a shelter or a rescue. Both of my German Shepherds are rescued dogs, and they're great pets.

There are alot of great dogs out there. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend, how much time you'll spend with your new dog, how old you want him to be, how trainable he is, what he looks like, if he is protective or not, if he's good with kids, how much he eats, his size, if he is hyperactive or laid-back, etc. Try talking to breeders and shelters about your needs in a dog. They can help direct you to the right pooch.

ANY, as long as it is a sweet baby from a shelter! Rescue dogs make great pets. Good for you and you save a life. Remember if you buy a dog or any animal from a pet store or a breeder, you have just killed the one at the shelter who was waiting on you.

i heard pure bred dogs, tend to have more medical trouble/issues in the future,as it differs in mixed breeds... You must decide small, medium, or a large dog,, how much space , you have, that the dog can roam around, fence or yard, for outside play,etc... I got my dog ,as a puppy,at a rescue center, she is a lucky dog, as she has a great home with me, she is a cute dog(mix),, people come up to me and ask me what type of dog she is,, she is mix doxie/terrier..
goodluck on your choice

it depends on what you like but people these days get the small ones because they are less likely to give you any trouble then the big dogs so i say the small ones like the bingo dog

I'm partial to Pit Bulls and Boston Terriers, both are good with kids and are great dogs from my experience.
