The Belvedere on West 48th Street is very nice, under $200, microwave, fridge and coffee makers in the rooms, 3 stars. It's clean and has a very helpful staff.

Under $200 with a fridge and a micro is going to be very difficult! But, I recommend you try Murray Hills East Suites. It depends on when you book the room, and how far in advance, it is very close to Grand Central Station...just take the subway (short ride) to Times Square. It is a full suite...but the decor is from the 70s...I don't care either. There are other hotel rooms under $200...but they don't have the micro and fridge...they are there in Manhattan. Have fun!
PS: If you want me to give you some names of the others...just send me a message and I will get back to you within a couple of days.

Many 3 stars hotels are available less than $200, however the best option for you is the Best Western Hospitality House Hotel, 1 bedroom suite with full kitchen for $129 only (excluding tax), can be found in the last mintue deals section at http://www.HotelsBoss.com

ok, to begin with, do you have to be near Time Square? NYC is a walking city with a great subway system so you can get anywhere easily. You would have more options looking for places to stay if you widen your search. Also, if you're looking for a real NYC experience, go look at Time Square (which is jam packed with tourists) then enjoy other neighborhoods where real New Yorkers are out and about. Have you discovered Tripadvisor.com yet? Go to the New York City forum and post your question. You'll get tons of help from people who live there. I have a notebook full of suggestions from them.
Check out the Chelsea Lodge. It gets great reviews on tripadvisor and is reasonably priced.
Have a great trip!

Milford Plaza is probably your best bet (milfordplaza.com) but you may be able to squeeze under $200 this time of year if you use an AAA discount at the Hilton Times Square or the Marriott (highly unlikely though).

You may want to try Home Exchange (google it) if you would be willing to swap places with someone in NYC. Check out hotwire.com and hotels.com too. Theres got to be something.
