My hair is naturally wavy/curly, medium length, but whenever I try to fix it into that cute, curly almost afro, it curls really tight and cute at the bottom, but not a the top. It is just plain straight at the top. All I do to fix it is wet it, put gel in it, and then tip my head upsidedown and scrunch it, while blowdrying it on the lowest setting. I want it to look like Kimberly Roads hair in the Little Big Town music videos. Can anyone help me on how to get my hair more volume and curl at the top???

When you are curling it get smaller amounts in the curler..hold your curling iron away from the base.. for example as your curling in a clock wise direction before you get to the base(scalp section you are curling) gently pull up your curling iron and back to the left for lift. Then hair spray lightly in that area before you release the iron from your hair.

Try using a diffuser. And Herbal Essenses just released a new mousse called totally twisted. It works! My hair is straight- semi wavy, and I tried it yesterday... the curls are still there. Hope this helps!

Have it cut in shorter layers, (long layers leave too much weight on top).
Then do as you are doing now except blow dry on low setting upside down a little (damp not completely dry) before you put gel in it.
Sounds like you have the right idea, maybe just too heavy on top.

its probally too heavy, cut a little weight off it, use a diffuser to keep the curl likeness, and try a different gel
