Why not, doesn't it make a good story? Just because you may have some friends who may have died. I'm sure the Jews had some friend who died when Moses told them to kill each other.

Let me reverse the names in your question, what if Osama's name was Moses, would you be like "Oh, let's watch the destruction of the Twin Towers during the holidays?" (This is quoting verbatim your question with the exception that now Osama's name is assumed to be Moses.)
Comparing Osama to Moses therefore, is like comparing hell to heaven, evil to goodness.
