Per definition Number 4, all persons are religious in relation to something or somebody. If said cause, principle or activity is pursued with enough zeal and/or devotion, so as to become the first value of the person or persons involved, it becomes in effect their god.

It is my own personal stance that people get closer to true religion in spite of organized religion, not because of it. It may be that some, in making this point, leave the impression that they cannot be defined as religious. I would think that most readers could distinguish between personal and corporate religion.

Secondly, many hold to a definition of god very much like the 4th definition you have set forth. Anything that one makes supreme in ones life is their god. Some make themselves god, some make their work god. Some seem to make the task of selling evolution their god; and some believers have substituted their religious orders, personal ideas and doctrines for god.

By definition, from my viewpoint, it is entirely possible that there could be 6.7 billion gods, give or take a few hundred thousand; as many people have more than one. Amazing right? And here we find some poor souls attempting to get a few Christians to dump the idea of just one! Now that takes religious zeal if there every was any.

Consider the almost unlimited number of gods and religions in the world. Then consider the athiest, almost alone by comparison, as he or she attempts to bring order to chaos. I stand in awe my friends at the task these few people have set
for themselves. Religious zeal if there every was any.

what's rather puzzling to appreciate is why maximum of recommend-lively human beings (interestingly like your self) locate it mandatory to attack the ideals of others? Does your attack make you experience vast? clever? extra suitable? See ref hyperlink a million under. If the believers are incorrect, so what? in the event that they do you no injury, so what? (and don't attempt to place self assurance in the reason of wars argument, that is previous and previous-shaped). on the different hand, in the event that they are suitable you could nicely be in for some extreme discomfort / grief the two after your demise or after the subsequent non secular chief arrives. in any case, an answer that has been recorded in literature for no less than a million,000 years is that God isn't hiding or hidden - he/she/that's performing suitable earlier your eyes suitable now and each 2d. in step with danger 'hiding' in undeniable sight is only too diffused for human beings lacking sensitivity or faith (not the comparable as concept). in case you think of this does not prepare to you, answer an age-previous question: the place does the theory you only theory / skilled / had come from? once you could heavily and wisely answer the question appropriate to the source of theory, you will not ask the question approximately hiding God. assured. yet another stable answer is given in reference 2 under.

They just say that to make themselves feel better. It sounds holy to say they have a relationship with jesus instead of being religious. They are not aware that is not even hinted at in the bible.

Almost everything they do is not in the bible, but they do not care they love traditions of men more than God.

However the people who really get me by saying the are not religious is those in AA. They think calling it spiritual rather then religious frees them.

Hey I am pagan, Wicca is my religion and I am proud of being religious. I am not ashamed of my faith, and I do have a personal relationship with my Goddess and God. We have no scripture to go by.

There's a popular trend in the Church to say 'I'm not religious'. Religio— a Latin word meaning to 'bind' or to 'undertake', connotating servitude and slavery. But actually this is a very good description of what it means to follow Christ. Peter, James (the Just) and Paul all described themselves as slaves of the Messiah. Our culture, particularly the media teaches us that self indulgence and gratification is the path to happiness. But is that true? I think that only in servitude to the Truth can one find true freedom.

Where does this definition come from? The definition of religion has been a hotly debated topic for years and there is still no scholarly consensus. A simple dictionary definition is just that: simplistic. See below for some of the debates and possibilities.

I do not care about your definition. I still say that I am not religious. I have a personal relationship with Jesus. I belong to non-denominational Christian church where the Bible is the center of teaching and they lead people to a life changing relationship with God.

It's less about the definition of religion and more about the definition of religIOUS

1.of, pertaining to, or concerned with religion: a religious holiday.
2.imbued with or exhibiting religion; pious; devout; godly: a religious man.
3.scrupulously faithful; conscientious: religious care.
4.pertaining to or connected with a monastic or religious order.
5.appropriate to religion or to sacred rites or observances.
–noun
6.a member of a religious order, congregation, etc.; a monk, friar, or nun.
7.the religious, devout or religious persons: Each year, thousands of the religious make pilgrimages to the shrine.

One who believes in God doesn't have to be pious, doesn't have the be faithful, doesn't have to be connected to any religion, doesn't have to follow any rites, and doesn't have to think of themselves as being related to religion. Nor would they have to be a member of any religious order.

I avoid saying I’m religious because people don’t know what you mean when you say that you are and have preconceived notions about “religious” people. It’s a label that makes talking with some more complicated than it needs to be.
