Walk him in the same part of the yard everyday and tell him to go. My dog goes poop in the same spot every day.

This is really effective (at least for my dog)...Put a newspaper or anything on the spot where your dog usually poops/pees on the carpet. Do this for a few days, then when he poops/pees again on the newspaper, transfer it to the spot where you wanted him to do his business. Just make sure when you do this you try to make him smell or point at him at the newspaper so that he picks up the scent of his 'bathroom'. Then do this again for a while (newspaper with the spot where you wanted him to poop/pee) and the next thing you'll know, he'll look for the new spot where you wanted it to forever and ever!

It really worked for my dog! Well, good luck!

You need to watch your dog and find out how your individual dog signals...or teach him a signal...the most common problem with housebreaking is people aren't literally watching their dogs to learn the dog's body language to indicate they need to be let out.

Put a body harness on your dog with a 5-6 foot long leash. Tie leash to belt of human who is watching dog...you'll learn the signals...and hang a bell by the door to their potty area...when you're walking the dog out after it's signaled..show the dog and ring the bell...don't forget command words, praise, and treat immediately and when appriopriate.

He shouldn't have to tell you. Depending on how old he is, you should take him out on a schedule. If you're not there, have someone do it for you. As dogs get older, they can control their bowels longer. Try crate training. Dogs don't like to soil their sleeping areas.

If you just got your dog wait until he is comfortable enough to give you signs that he has to go. If you have had him for a while maybe you should see a dog trainer or show him you want to know.

Teach him to ring a bell by placing it on the door to go outside. Every time you take him outside, use your keyword (potty, outside, go pee, etc) and ring the bell. Soon, he may start ringing the bell to go potty and there's your better way. This is also great for owners who are blind.

Everytime he goes, take him to the door, and give him a dog treat, and praise him when he gets it right, after a while he will link the treat and praise to asking to go outside.
