Understanding the Bible is what first lets us know its all lies.
The Bible is clearly rediculous. Anything good that can be taken from this book was already known to man well before it was written in the Bible (i.e. The Golden Rule, the 10 Commandments, etc). In other words, it is obviously the shoddy work of man, and says nothing to point to any supreme "Lord" or "god".

It's impossible to evaluate anything critically if you haven't read and studied it. You can't discuss evolution with any degree of intelligence without reading "Origin of the Species" and you can't make a blanket statement that the Bible is all lies without actually analyzing what is written. I have discovered that the Biblical account of the crucifixion, for example, is highly accurate. The Bible doesn't prove that Jesus was the son of God, or that he rose from the dead, or anything else, but as a historical record it does have some merit.

So you were indeed searching for the truth..yes?
And I see that you did listen to preachers , pastors, and Billy Grahm; good man.
So you found some good proverbs...yes?
So why should there be good proverbs in a book that is no good?
Maybe you should clear you mind of Billy Grahm and the preachers and go read again. Email me when you finish.

So how are the prophecy of the invention of the automobile and space travel lies. How is it a lie that Noah's ark is still atop Mount Ararat just where God had said it laid to rest after the flood? How is it a lie that Israel became a nation again after centuries of being scattered throughout the earth just like God said they would. The truth is so plainly in front of man and yet man chooses to ignore it!

Just because some of us read it doesn't mean we actually believe it! Like I'm reading a book about buddhism, but I'm not a buddhit am I? Some people just want to throw scripture right back in the Christians faces, or they want to learn more about them.

Atheist are not closed minded like Christians. If there was evidence for the existence of God, they would accept it. You will not find a creationist that would undertake a serious study of science.

In a book so large, you cannot help but find examples of every possible scenario, lies, truth, wisdom, contradiction, kindness, cruelty, bigotry, factual errors - you name it, it's there. THE POINT IS - it is not inerrant and is therefore not a reliable source of wisdom, knowledge, morals or anything else. In fact its only consistency is inconsistency. To the open mind, it is clearly a man made contrivance and does not have the "hand of god" in it.

well there are many possible reasons. there is no one answer. each answer varies with the individual.
here are mine
1. when you nutjobs begin quoting scripture instead of answering my questions, i quote back. but i use all the ugly, nasty things that are in the bible that you people ignore.
2. when im in a debate i can respond to people instead of going to a position/ubject that they dont understand (psychology, rationality, etc...)
3. know thy enemy. while you arent necessarily my enemy yo uare an adversary. im trying to keep logic and reason in the school place while you want to abandon it for fantasy and mythology.
im sure there are more.

I study the bible so i can know the truth about it and be able to pass it on to people who have a warped view of what it says and means.

I bet atheists have more knowledge of biblical history than you.
Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 1
36 Be not incredulous to the fear of the Lord: and come not to him with a double heart. 37 Be not a hypocrite in the sight of men, and let not thy lips be a stumblingblock to thee. 38 Watch over them, lest thou fall, and bring dishonour upon thy soul, 39 And God discover thy secrets, and cast thee down in the midst of the congregation. 40 Because thou camest to the Lord wickedly, and thy heart is full of guile and deceit.
