Whats the best way to let a girl know you have feelings for her?

I took this girl to homecoming back in October but a series of events I won't get in to kept me from asking her out. We've done a few things together outside of school but nothing lately, but we still talk alot and she sends me alot of mixed signals. I'm kinda sick of trying to figure her out but I have feelings for her so whats the best way to let her know? I don't really like the idea of a note so I'm thinking about just telling her. Should I call her or tell her sometime when I'm walking with her after class? Girls, what would you prefer? Or is there something different you'd prefer I'm just not thinking of?

I would prefer a guy to just be honest with me about his feelings.There's no sense in beating around the bush.
