Mucus traps dust, dirt, and hair from going into your respiratory system. So boogers are made up of mucus, dust, dirt and hair. Different colors mean different things. Green and yellow mucus usually mean infection. Black means dust or dirt was breathed in.

It's mucus that is at least partially made from the liquid of your tears. If you want proof of this, next time you have something in your eye, try blowing your nose...often, it will take care of the problem.

Additionally, it is produced by the mucous membrane...The intention of it is to help filter things from the air that you're breathing.

In general, the reason it changes color is because of an illness in your body. Sinus infections can turn it green and yellow...if you ever get bright yellow snot, go to the doctor - it's almost always an infection that will need antibiotics. It also changes colors based on the things that it catches...the dust and pollens that you have breathed in get stuck in it.

Boggers are usually four wheel drive vehicles that have been stripped down to make them lighter and have flat pans under them to help them skim across the water and great big mudder tires.

Oh you mean boogers. Never mind.
