if you are african american i know that cutting your split ends on a regular basis whenever needed usually 4-6 wks and not using alot of heat and products like jell helps. also wrapping the hair at night works

Do not color , bleach, Perm, hot press any thing that can kill the normal growth of you hair if you have done any of this things the best thing to do is to start over. If you are an African American woman I strongly suggest that to not wash your hair every day you must only wash your hair two time in one mouth and sometime that's even too much always keep you hair with will greased with any of this items " African best African pride or olive oil, carrot oil. this will help your hair grow not as fast as you might want it to but it will.
