Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 1
36 Be not incredulous to the fear of the Lord: and come not to him with a double heart. 37 Be not a hypocrite in the sight of men, and let not thy lips be a stumblingblock to thee. 38 Watch over them, lest thou fall, and bring dishonour upon thy soul, 39 And God discover thy secrets, and cast thee down in the midst of the congregation. 40 Because thou camest to the Lord wickedly, and thy heart is full of guile and deceit.

How ironic. 'Get a grip' is a shortened form of 'get a grip on reality' Reality is the last thing that religion teaches us.

Faith is a source of strength. Nature has placed the sensation for spiritual faith in each person's brain. Scientists call this part of your brain, the God Module. When this part of the brain is stimulated then you have a deeply spiritual experience. The purpose of the brain being "hard wired" for religion, is for survival purposes. Faith allows us to take hold of hope in spite of however hopeless our situation may be. It helps us to look forward to a future life for ourselves and for our children. In that case, Yes, religion does teach us to "get a grip".

Yes! I believe it teaches us how to get a grip and keep it. Try Almighty God, he makes us able to do all things above and beyond.

in order to "get a grip" on religion you have to "loose a grip" on reality.
