and 2 people posted a chihuahua would be great so i went ahead and purchased one, shes adorable and so quiet! but im wondering when puppies start to bark and all that she's 8 wks old my toy poodle was about 10 weeks when i got her and could not stop barking and whimpering ( i later found out that the people sold her to us with worms ) was it the worms that made the toy poodle so loud or was it her breed? Im just wondering if i should expect this pup to be loud as well

worms do not make dogs bark more, You have to teach them not to bark for nothing, use a squirt gun, or a can full of beans to silence her when she barks and say no.

Expect your dog to yap uncontrollably if you are not a good leader. The majority of dogs will bark for a reason, like there is someone at the door, they are playing, etc. But some breeds have a tendency to bark more then others.

Worms will not make the dog bark neither will a bad breeder. The dog's current behaviour is directly linked to the current owner.

If you discourage the barking as soon as you hear it with a loud firm "no" it should be fine, I have a cattle dog cross that doesn't bark because of this method, he's barked 3 times since I've had him, once at the door to come in, once at a stranger and once while playing with another dog. I let him when he was playing, but he doesn't bark at all pretty much. if the pup wants to bark it can start anytime from about 8-9 weeks. I hope this helps.

Poodles are really high strung and high maintenance. They bark alot. But if you really think about it, any puppy brought into an environment that has multiple units will bark at the slightest sound, because it is protecting its territory. All you need to do when she starts barking you say no, its ok, good girl. They do learn when to bark and when not to bark. Have patience and be thankful she doesn't bark like crazy!

Some breeds are just naturally yappy & poodles & Chihuahua can be some of the yappiest. Just be sure to let them know that yapping is NOT acceptable, with a FIRM "NO". Small dogs do tent to bad about this, but then I had a Pekingese that didn't make a sound until he was 2 yrs. old & then it practically scared him our of his skin when he did it. He never yapped, but he would bark if you had chicken. I have no idea where that came from, but the ONLY time he barked was when one of us was eating chicken. Strange HUH???
Good Luck with your new baby....

I have a miniature poodle and he is a rescue dog and I can tell you from having him that he can bark up a poodle storm. I think that he just doesn't like it when I have to leave for some reason and don't occupy him with something else to keep him busy while I leave when he is awake.
