>>Christians, why do many atheists remain atheists yet understand the Bible more thoroughly than you do?<<
They do? Then why do I keep reading questions about Cain's wife and Christians eating shellfish?

Being a Christian is simply a matter of freewill. God has given it to each of us and it is up to us to decide what we believe. Christians put their faith in the Bible, atheists do not.
Young or "Baby Christians" may not read their Bible much, but as they mature (and sometimes it takes years), so does their understanding that it is important to read the Bible so that they may develop their own understanding of what the Bible says.

I'm an atheist, and I understand the Bible for a few reasons. First, I was taught it as a child in Catholic school. I had questions even then. I studied it again in Religious Studies in college, and began to get answers to my questions, mostly in Philosophy courses. Since then, I have taken an interest in it on my own, trying to figure out is supported by evidence and what is not. Although it proves nothing, it is an interesting book.

While I think you are snipeing I tend to agree with you. Many Christians could use a better understanding of the text they regard as Holy. I myself am pretty familiar with it and still need more time in the word. Most Christians prayer lives are flimsy too while your at it.
But, having said that, I bet Satan knows it word for word and that does not mean diddly in the outcome.

easy question. Athiests read the bible LOOKING for errors/contradictions.. they start reading the book in the hope of proving it wrong. because they arent open, and dont read it from a spirtual point of view, of course it will appear rediculous to them - it was never meant to be read literally.. imo i think christians who read and follow each point of the bible literally are just as bad.
the only way to read this book is with an open heart and mind, and thats what atheists cant do because of their pre-suppositions
human nature is interesting. people will tend to believe what they want to believe, and rarely sway from that belief, even if it makes no sense - like atheism

Dear Tyrone, thats a very good question, and I doubt those who call themselves christains and yet do not desire to read and grwo in Knowledge of the BIble. The second question is not so easy to answer, to make a blanket statement over all atheist would be inccorrect, because many have come to be athiest for different reasons. The majority of Athiest I meet during wittnessing Encounters, are atheist simply because they were unchurched and never decided to change, and thouygh they have some knowledge of the BIble, are content with thier lifestyle. Others are adamant about thiere belife in No God, and are evolutionsit and fully reject all of the doctrines of Christianity. There is only one thing that is universal, 9 out of 10 athiest I talk to even though theymay seem well versed in the BIble cannot clearly articulate the Gospel. The Gospel goes like this. Sin (transgression of Ten Commandments) seperates us from God, every time we lie, steal look with lust, use Gods name in vain or covet, we sin against God and he has made us in His image. we not only sin against him and break His Law, but because God destined us to be His represenatives, we have also slandered His Name, because every time we do the above, we tel the world, God is a lying thieving blasphemous adulterer at heart. He is angry at sin, because he is Holy and Just, he demands perfection in thought word and deed. and simply going to confessional and trying to live a religious life is not enough. the BIble says due to sin, each and every one who has trangressed His Law are headed to hell. lying lips are an abomination to the Lord and al theives ,Idolaters and lyers will have thier part in the Lake of fire. here's the good news, though you and I deserve hell, God loved us enough to send is only beggotten son, that whosoever will repent (turnf rom sin) and belive and trust upon hIm can be forgiven and granted the gift of everlasting life. This can all be verified, the BIble promises that anyone who genuinely repents and puts thier trust in the savior will expereince salvation and the gift of everlasting life. Not only that, but God will reveal himself to them by givivng them a new heart with new desires to serve HIm. Eitther its true or its Not, God is not going to stand over our Atheist friends with a cattle prod and make them do anything, But I would hate to Know I passed up an opportunity to settle the issue and find Myself standing before God on Judgement day. I Hope nothing will stop you from explorig the truth that is found in jesus Christ. It dindt me and I have repented and trusted in the savior, and I have the gift of everlasting life and a relationship with him.
God Bless

I don't think atheists do understand the Bible. They do not have a spiritual understanding of the circumstances. Their eyes have been blinded by the truth. Satan knows the Bible better than most humans and knows how to twist and reword things so as to confuse.

YOUR QUESTION MAKES NO SENSE!
If an Atheist is a true atheist they have NO UNDERSTANDING of GOD'S WORD.
IF they did understand GOD'S WORD they would NO LONGER BE ATHEISTS!
That is the whole problem to begin with.
Atheist claim to not believe because God's word doesn't make sense!
Anyone who reads, studies and truly understands God's teachings can not claim to NOT BELIEVE IN HIM! So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the WORD OF GOD! Romans 10:17 If they truly HEAR , then they will have FAITH.
Knowledge means to know, if they do not know GOD then they do not understand GOD's Word. If they claim to KNOW GOD 's Word then they can no longer claim to be atheists. because to know GOD is to LOVE God. 1 John 4:7,8 GOD IS LOVE.

I doubt most of them understand it better than I do. They tend to break it up more than necessary and take things from context. Take them out of the literary form and so forth, to prove a point. They often fail to look up difficult places in commentaries and so forth. Then, they use their own thoughts on it to attack others.
They reject the fact that the OT sets the stage for the new, and was therefore a necessity in some places where morality is questioned. When efficiency was taken over absolute morality, and that for the salvation of mankind. Even, possibly, some of those who died.
Need I go on?
