I've been talking with a couple recruiters (Navy Army and Marines), well three recruiters. Im leaning towards a job in Navy as a GM (Gunners Mate), but I want to be out there doing something.

I mean I dont want to be on the front line, bullets whizzing past my face day after day. But I want to be out there DOING something, not sitting back in America while other people in service are out there fighting and dieing.

I want to do something and think that what Im doing is helping, and that Im not taking the easy way out. WHats a good MOS in the Army or Marines? (Its not like Im going to go out and enlist into whatever someone says, Im just looking for some helpful suggestions; but as of now, Im leaning towards GM in the Navy) Thanks

Try to pick a job that will be useful to you in the civilian world. That one won't be. There are lots of good jobs but it depends on you ASVAB score and then how you scored in the different areas. Don't take the job just because that is what the recruiter is trying to make you sign up as. Also if you do decide to take that job and don't like it you usually have to wait 2 years before you can change (at least in the Marines it is like that). What ever you decide good luck and be safe

They have no civilian skilled jobs for Gunners Mate, or, ground pounders or grunts!

Get a skill you can use in civilian life! At least you will have served your country. There is nothing that says the only way you can serve is to be brought home in a body bag!

Even an Aircraft Mechanic is doing something and gives you a well paying field on the outside!

Navy, all the way, GM is a cool job, you are responsible fo launching cruise missiles into iraq and anywhere else needed and you are in carge of weapons on a destoyer or carrier or whateer you are assigned to. or you could do what i'm doin, which is SEALs or SWCC which are naval special forces, yes you come in contat with battles and death but at least you can say you are the best.

If you're not sure what to do after talking about it with the recruiters chances are, you're not ready to make a commitment. You actually have to sign a piece of paper sying that you will stay in the job for a long period of time (usually 1 year). Think LONG and HARD before committing yourself like that. Personally, I'd run a mile as I like my freedom too much.

Why not try the army and go artillery. You won't have bullets going "Wheet" past your ear, but they may shoot big guns at you. You can also volunteer for airborne training. If you get your parachutist's badge, there is a bunch of extra money as jump pay.

Don't live off of the government. Don't go "helping" kill people. Don't spread violence. Don't join any branch of the military. You'll never have real peace of mind if you live your life with the belief that violence is the answer.

Marines have better training and harder standards.
