We know that Adam and Eve were punished for eating the forbidden fruit. As a woman, I know how we were punished, but what I don't understand is how were men punished? What do men have to deal with a result of Adam's actions?

men are to toil in the fields, to work the land, and it won't be easy.

women are to bear children, and it will be painful.

lol.. what we All need to understand is that men and women must sacrifice and toil and strife ... in different ways, but still equal in importance to the relationship. that is why it's so important to acknowledge and somewhat follow the "Roles" we play: men are to Take Care of the work, the labor, the family in monetary and physical means... women are to bear and Rear their children, and support the husband. yes it's true in modern day society roles can be switched..but never can we look down on each other's importance and jobs in a relationship. men shouldn't look down on women for being housewives, and women shouldn't look down on men for being househusbands. as u can see, both people work together, and respect each other.

let us stop putting each other down for our differences or perceived 'weakness', and instead respect and admire each other's strengths.

Read Genesis 3:16-19. After cursing the serpent, G-d then cursed BOTH male and female. Women have the 'joys' of pregnancy and labour, for 9 months. Men have to work, day in and day out, to provide the food that would have been 'on hand' if not for the Fall. And not just their own food, but the woman's and the child's!
I don't think men got off lightly.

And although women can now get into 'male' work areas - as well as having kids - "Arnie" is an example that science will permit us guys to share the fun of pregnancy, too, eventually.

Then we will REALLY both be "equal in the eyes of G-d!"

Actually, Adam ate the fruit, then God created Eve as his punishment.

Haha. Kidding.

Seriously now...

I really don't think that story is literal, but assuming that it is, it seems that God punished men by making them work for everything they would ever want or need. Apparently, part of this was providing for the woman, who would just endure the pain of childbirth and do other odds and ends stuff.

God told Adam that by the sweat of his brow he will toil and work hard to get food from the earth.Adam and Eve once lived in a beautiful garden where the food which they ate was plentyful.
Were you referring to labor pains which God spoke of for the woman?
Did you know that soon God will be restoring the earth back to a paradise condition? Satan screwed things up back there and he has had time to try to run the world his way! Take a look around? Did you realize that in the Lords Prayer we are asking God for His kingdom to come to the earth? Soon Jesus will be restoring faithful mankind back to a perfect condition just the way it was originally meant to be!

Childbirth was not a punishment (as it was a commandment prior to them eating of the fruit). The punishment was that they (man and woman) would have to work out their own salvation and toil in the cruel world; they were no longer provided everything on a silver platter. If anything, I would say women remain closer to God.

Both men and women were punished exactly the same way at the same time: Banished from the Garden of Eden the Eternal Life they were set to live with God. Now, we grow old and die. Our only chance of living eternally with God is to know him, and by His Grace, he'll save you from your Hell.

What punishment were you thinking of that you think women got alone?

In the Garden of Eden the fruits and vegetables come up without Adam having to work for it. When Adam ate of the fruit, God said that man would have to work for the crops, and for meat they would have to kill the animals. Nothing would be just handed to him.

The Covenant of Works was made in the Garden of Eden between God and Adam who ultimately represented all mankind in a covenantal sense. (Romans 5:12-21) It promised life for obedience and death for disobedience. Adam and all mankind in Adam failed to live as God intended and stood condemned. Adam disobeyed God and broke the covenant, and so the Covenant of Grace was made between God and all of mankind.

After they were removed from the garden, Adam was forced to work for his food for the first time.

The Covenant of Grace promised eternal blessing for all people for trusting in the successive promises of God and ultimately for accepting Christ as a substitutionary covenantal representative. It is the historical expression of the eternal covenant of redemption and covenant theologians see Gen 3:15 as the historical beachhead for the covenant of grace.

I know modern religions generally condemn women for all things evil but I believe that is just symbolism for men to show power over women that carried over from a matriarchal society to a patriarchal society.

You can only accept and understand the Garden of Eden, if you believe. One thing is that it is not in our existing world. In the Bible, as well as the Qur'an, Adam and Eve were thrown down to earth for their disobedience. Only our faith makes us believe that it exists and we will enter it, if we abide by his rules.

Banished from God's presence like Eve and forced to do hard labor to stay alive - work/till the land.
