Try planting your yard with lots of aromatic herbs: Fleas don't like a lot of them and will go hopping the other way. And start treating the dog with Revolution or Frontline to keep them off him. If your dog is an inside animal, sprinkle your house and furniture with Borax, let it sit about 20 minutes, and vacuum. And keep vacuuming every day for at least 2 weeks. And make sure to wash your bedding and curtains in case there are any little fleas or flea eggs hiding there.
Good luck!

Planting lots of flea repelling plants sounds like a great idea. I might try that with my three dogs. In the meantime, you might try a raw diet. I feed my lab and Heinz 57 dogs a completely raw diet, no kibble at all. Surprisingly the flea problems both infestation and allergies decreased dramatically. I wouldn't say there are no fleas but apparently a healthy raw fed dog doesn't tend to get as many parasites. Bonus: my dogs don't ever have stinky breath. I still use Advantage because my house has cats too, but I don't need it as often. The Petshed.com place is the least expensive place to get Advantage. Check out raw feeding; it might help.

tigger gave you some excellent advice. i have a female anatolian shepard with the same problem, and i live in northern cali. you'd think the fleas would freeze to death in this hard freeze winter we're having. keep a lot of fresh eucalyptus branches around the yard and in the house, if you can, until you can plant flea repelling vegetation....fleas will not stay around. same with tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil. do not bathe your dog with pesticide flea products if you are also using a topical product...organo-phosphate poisoning can occur. you can use the cheapest topical flea product from walmart too. it works. borax is cheap and excellent to suffocate fleas, and is non-toxic. beware of the dust when you vacuum, if you have birds or small pets like rats. use sulfodene on your dog to aid with the itching...or tea tree oil. you can also give generic benedryl (diphenhydramine is super cheap) ask your vet about the dosage. i really feel for you...my dog suffered until we figured out what was wrong with her, and it only took one cortisol injection to make her itching stop completely...$12. you have to keep up with the topical flea product though, because the bite of one flea will start the whole allergy process all over again. best of luck with this.

You can buy Advantage or Frontline on www.1800petmeds.com or petshed.com! They are way cheaper than buying from the vet. Also, I'd just give him a flea bath once a week! Mine is allergic to fleas as well and I have to put Frontline on her monthly and give her a bath every week. Otherwise she blows up like a balloon!
