I have had a class on this subject, so i hope this helps. If you have really green/algey water, then thats not really contaminated but you have too much phosphorous going into the water. but if you have had an oil spill, then thats something for the big dogs to take care of lol. To have the healthies water on a lake you need to have healthy shoreline(nothing mowed up to the shore) lots of trees and shrubs. There need to be many plants in the water, they will help filter out any bad stuff, and all of this will help with shore erosion. Good Luck

Depends on the type of contamination.
Chelation is a method of removing metallic compounds like lead, cadium and mercury.
Filtration would remove particulate matter and some organics
Biofiltration would be the cleaning of the water via organisms.
Ultraviolet radiation and chlorine kill most bacteria and some viruses, also some parasitic organisms.
