Wouldn't telling that person...draw more attention to him/her?
Ignore foul/loud/outrageous behavior. Drag the person aside if you have to tell them to calm down. Give attention, but don't praise or emphasize attention-getting behavior.
Sometimes, people get in a rut and think they have to perform to get love or affection or attention or whatever. Make sure the person knows he/she is important...and needs to simmer down.

It's a difficult situation. The truth is that the love she feels for her son is different than the love she feels for you. I understand when you say "put the marriage first and the child will benefit from it". I have to say that you are right. It will create a balance in the child's life and also, have this child respect you later on in life when he becomes a rebel teenager like we all do. If your wife isn't 'getting it', you should clearly express it once again and for the sake of your happiness, set a date to give up. Whatever time makes you feel comfortable... a year or two, six months... I don't know. Tell her if things don't change for the benefit of the family that you are the head of, then you will leave and find somebody else that listens to you, as a husband and father, and build your own family.

This person needs to be told that when he's at a birthday party, the person who's birthday party it is should get majority of the attention, just an example. Only a person who can speak to this self centered loud mouth openly should confront him. If a person whom he has no respect for confronts him, things may get nasty and even physical. These type of people get offended easily and do not take criticism well. Good Luck.!

Dont say anything, why cause friction? Just try to ignore their advances to be the center of attention.

Ignore them and walk away. They can't be the center of attention with no audience.

I hate people like this- just ignore what they have to say or downplay everything they say. One up them. If this doesn't help then just tell them flat out that its annoying that they always have to be in the spotlight.

Just tell this person that the world doesn't revolve around them. Tell this person to grow up.

I think it would be best just to ignore them. Maybe go into the other room? Maybe they're just lonely?
