Not all physical disabilities immediately disqualify you from service and upon proper review from a doctor you may be eligible for a waiver. It could be more difficult to get into Airborne school though, but there are waivers for that too. Go see your local recruiters and they will be more than willing to take you through the process.

I'm in the process of joining the Coast Guard and my recruiter told me that i would be disqualified for any metal in my body due to an injury. i had a titanium rod in my lower leg due to a tib/fib fracture. i have recently had it removed and am on the way to recovering fully. my recruiter said since i had the rod removed it still doesnt mean im "in" there are more tests to be done but it was a step in the right direction.

"back in Aug 2009" what? You can't get into the US Army if you have pins/plates in your body, I'm sure the marines won't take you for that. Sure, your recruiter will tell you to lie, but fraudulent enlistment can cost you up to $500k in fines plus 10 years imprisonment. And when you add "ing" to a word, you drop the E off at the end. Having, not haveing.

Probably not, but it would disqualify you from working security at an airport.
