So if i went through all the papers and everything and got accepted as an adoptive parent before the baby was born, how long would it be until I could take that baby home?

Not trying to be rude but you don't seem to know much about adoption.A baby can be adopted from birth. If you can find a birth mother who is still pregnant and get her to sign her rights away when the baby is born, he/she is yours. That's how my parents adopted me(I was 15 minutes old when the papers were signed), and if you do adopt that way you bring the baby home from the hospital as soon as the doctors release him/her.But trust me if you haven't filled out the paperwork or anything yet you got about 6 months to a year wait.My family started filling out the paperwork again to adopt and get a home study and stuff over two years ago and just about a month ago got the letter from the state dept. saying they got approved.Good Luck

A child can be put up for adoption at birth but because the potential adoptive parent(s)have to go through an assessment of suitability it means that the child will be older by the time it is adopted. The baby will most likely be placed with Foster carers until all procedures are completed. However if a potential adopter has already gone through the procedures BEFORE a baby becomes available the timescales are shorter.

Im in the process of becoming a foster parent and it will take anything up to a year for everything to go through. The social worker we deal with tells us there isnt "as many" babies put up for adoption as there was say 20 yrs ago many people are choosing to bring them up on there own as there isnt the same stigma attached.I know someone(foster parent)who went to a hospital to "collect" a baby and the mother was still in labour, the child was being taken away as had her other children due to abuse .If you decide to put youre child up for adoption in this country you still have i think around 6 months to "change youre mind" so the child would probably be with foster parents until this time had elapsed.

Most people choose to adopt babies. How about all the other children who are still waiting for a loving home?

I don't know the specific answer - I would guess it depends on the local authority area in which you live/want to adopt - but having gone through it, I would say it is a difficult process - there any many setbacks - but keep at it, you get there in the end.

There's no age limit. You can't really put an age on a child who needs a home. When they need it, they need it.
One thing to remember, there are a lot of older kids desperate for families that get passed by because most people want babies. Please dont overlook these kids. It can be difficult at times but very rewarding.
