If all is connected and you go to Control Panel and then Sounds and Audio devices and click on the Sounds tab click on the Start windows line and press the little play button. If you can't hear wav files or cd files or online streaming audio...I would then right click My Computer click on Properties, click on the Hardware Tab and then click Device Manager. Sometimes it will actually tell the truth and there will be a check mark or a yellow yeild type icon beside the speakers...if so click the + sign to expand speakers (you may want to try this before opening your pc and reseating the sound card even if the Device Manager says everything is enabled and working, it lies alot) Right click on your speakers and first try to update the driver, if no joy, then try to Roll Back the Driver, still no joy? Uninstall and reboot the computer will activate plug and play and install it for you or if you have a disk that came with it use that.
Good Luck,

HERE IS A WAY TO TEST OUT YOUR SPEAKERS
Go find the head phones to your MP3 player or to your CD player. Then plug the head phones into where you plug in your speakers. The cord may be short but this is just a test so move yourself after you start a song and listen.
This will allow you to see if the computer is putting an output to your speakers.
If you hear on your head phones and not your speakers you know the problem is with your Speakers or Speaker Cord.
If you can not hear anything when you plug in your Head Phones then you know it is your computer and you should click on the little speaker icon in the botton right of your comuter screen and make sure your sound is not on Mute or has been turned down.
Good Luck

This matter seems simple to resolve,
check the sound card settings,,
1.go to control panel and click sounds and devices
2.here you should see all sort of settings check sound level
3.click advanced and verify that no level has mute activated
4.speaker settings at bottom be sure you have stereo desktop speakers selected click advance to change.
5.if you have a sound card added to your computer(pci slot)you cannot plug your external speakers to the previous pc plugs, they must go into the speaker out of your new sound card only,
so check that your new sound card is activated by clicking the audio tab and selecting your sound card as default device and be sure the manufacture's card is not selected.
6. if you only have a manufacture card (embedded in )which can be noticed by the usual headphone and or mic hole in front and back of computer or what not, be sure this card is selected on this line....
7. if all checks out unplug your speakers and try a different hole til you here sound... if not still check to see if your speakers require power...

You may also want to make sure you didn't mute them by mistake. There should be a sound icon bottom right corner - double click it and check that you have the sound up. Hope this helps.
