Morality is the source for laws, and well, the Bible is not the source for our morality; even a Christian would say that God is the source and the Bible is just His means of communication. Most religions and even philosophies condemn murder.

A follower of an Abrahamic religion might very well argue that this is because of the Tower of Babel--that we are all descendants of Noah and therefore we all know the jest of God's commandments and/or the Noahide Laws, et cetera, even without being directly told--before we were dispersed throughout the world into our separate societies.

Our laws and morality generated the Bible(s) throughout history, not the other way around. Most religions have a taboo against theft, murder, etc, just because a functional society requires that you treat others the way you expect to be treated yourself. That these social rules have been codified into most religions (with the few exceptions that believe it's just great to kill other people) is no surprise at all. Most of the Atheists, Christians, and Buddhists and Moslems I know all share the same core values. Just because some folks want to believe that it comes from the Bible does not make the concepts and core values invalid for others.

Because all theists seem to beleive that without a god scaring us into being good, humans would have no reason to act morally. They think that since we do not beleive in hell, we do not fear hell, and we'd wander around killing and hurting people just 'because'. They don't realize that humans by nature have morals; in a study on chimps, it was found that even thought they didn't have a religion (big surprise), they had moral obligations to one another (sharing, helping, nurturing, etc). This is because groups of individuals obtain greater benefits when working together as a solid and unified group, rather than as individuals doing what they want to please themselves. I'm an atheist; but I've never murdered, raped, stolen, or discriminated. The bible PROMOTES these things. Just read up on it.. I'll be back with verses from the bible.

The Bible is not the source for laws and morality; punishments for murder and rape existed long before any commandments or books of the Torah.

Many governments immediately saw the need to control killing, more general violence, theft and other chaotic acts to protect their people. If anything, modern law is based on practicality.

You could trace it better to the twelve tablets -- Roman law.

The bible isn't the only source of morality. I'm sure that your question was merely pointing out that fact, but the way it was worded made it seem otherwise.

Because the reality of the matter is that being a moral human being has nothing to do with religion. However religious figures continued insistence that an atheist would would amount to anarchy has seeped into common belief.

There is also something called a moral code. I don't think it has to do with Christianity (I could be wrong but doubt it). Every culture and religion has a sense of value for life no matter how primitive or sophisticated it is.

murder has always been seen as wrong, not just during Christianity. Christianity is fairly new if you think about it. I don't think religion has anything to do with murder besides what it says in the ten commandments...murder is seen to most humans as wrong, naturally. Of course it would be termed illegal if there is a legal system. Hammurabi termed it in his law codes as illegal and he was not Christian..Christianity was not even in existence then .

Because its not our source of morals. Not mine at least. I dont need a God to tell me four times that I shouldnt pray to other Gods - and THEN to warn me about killing other people.... Why are the first four commandments about God and not about how to treat each other? What exactly is God so afraid of.

According to the Bible, God's law (morality) is written on man's heart. Japanese people are highly spiritual. If you understand the culture the peoples came from, you will see that they believe the spirituality necessarily tied to the body.
