Why do ships carry CARgo, but cars/vehicles carry SHIPments

Sorry to have to tell you this but!!!
Cars/Vehicles do carry cargo, as a matter of fact GM sells a 1 ton cargo van. and ships can carry a shipment of toys etc.
Cargo is the product
Shipment is what is happening.
You ship cargo.

because we have a very interesting English language. For example, one is a goose, two is geese. One is a mouse, but two is mice, not MEESE. etc etc etc...
