joins often click when moved - it's a build up of calcium on the bone. Women are more prone than men, but men are not exempt!
There is a condition known as 'clicky hips' which some children are born with - your girl friend would know if she had this as it would have been monitored as a child as people with this condition are at risk of dislocating the joint.

I have clicky hips.
When i was young i had shooting pains up my leg. When i was a teenager they did all sorts of test and took X-rays but couldn't figure out what caused the shooting pains.
I never had clicky hips as a child but by the time i was 18 i did. I was sent to a specialist that told me all they could do was to cut my tendons and then i would have to learn to walk again.
I told them no thanks.
Now i get days when i can't walk. best explanaton i hhave had so far is someone said that either the musles or the tendons are too short. And the click you hear is the muscle 'clicking' over the hip joint.
My muscle just above the joint is very hard. Even when i was 18. they sent me to physiotherapy and it needed his elbow for massage. They also gave me muscle stretching exercises.

Hello
Mine do this too, even when I walk. I also had a lot of pain in my hip joints after excercise or sleeping in certain positions (like if the bed was too soft/too hard). I got x-rayed and it turned out that my hips are set at the wrong angle, a little too far in (so my knees are a little too close together, lol) you cant really tell by looking though. Anyway, if she has any pain I suggest that she sees a doctor, as he can recommend some gentle exercises she can do to strengthen the supporting muscles that hold hips in place. My grandma had hip replacements due to this, so i started doing them pretty quick!

I had also this problem but I had severe pain down from the top of the leg down into my groin. The doctors told me that I had a groin strain (from the age of eleven the age of twenty seven until I saw a surgeon who confirmed my worst fears. I had, had clicky hips as a baby and was not diagnosed until they carried out more tests these took until I was thirty years of age. I ended up with severe decaying (Ostio-Arthritis) of the hip joint with the result I had to have a hip replacement at the age of thirty two. Please tell your friend to go to the doctor and demand a x-ray to make sure she doesn't have an arthritic condition. If she is still not happy with the doctors diagnoses tell her to get a second opinion.

Tell her to stand up for herself and not let the doctors fob her of with any old story.

All the best of luck.

I won't ask how you've come to find out about such a thing ... Next time she's at the GP's, get her to mention it. It's probably something and nothing. There is a condition known as Clicky Hips, which every baby is tested for, but I doubt your friend will have gotten this far in her life without being diagnosed, or without suffering... I'm sure it really is something and nothing.
