My brother is 17 years older than me so he has been on his own in the real world. But he had a problem with his roomate and moved in with my mom and me. I have a 3 year female yellow lab. He brought his 5 year old female yellow ab with him. They were doing fine. But on morning I was sitting on the floor watching tv and his dog lept at my dog. My dog attacked back and now they both are in seperate rooms with big bloody scars. I want my brother to feel welcome and I dont want him to move out just because our dogs dont get along. I dont want the dogs to have to stay in seperate rooms. How can I get them to play nicely with each other without them fighting?

This is a normal thing that has to do with dominance around the house. Prior to your brothers dog being there, your dog was the alpha, most likely his dog was an alpha as well and that is why the whole thing took place (Also his lab is older so it might be a little bit more anwry.) They are just trying to establish who is the new Alpha. It looks really scary when the whole thing goes down because of all the blood and scars (I know cuz this happened to me twice with my two female dogs) but you have to just separate them and let them cool down. You should be the Alpha and control the situation with a very stern voice so that the action doesn't happen again. These things could be triggered as easy as one of the dogs taking the treat of the other.

You just have to be prepared the next time it happens albeit real hard to pull them both away. Good luck with everything, I don't think there is any need for either of the dogs to go away.

You'll need to re-do introductins and make sure they're both leashed and under control..do it slowly and several times a day...

BUT there are no guarantees when you have two animals in a house that they willl ever get along... you can try to do the introductions again..make sure each also gets plenty of attention... but the final result may be that they will have to be kept seperate from each other.

Thats odd that 2 females fight but yours is protecting you.In time they should quit.BUT they may never like each other.Be careful separating them.
