You have to understand the roles of each service. The USMC is largely a rapid reaction force--they have accurately nicknamed themselves America's 911 Force (though Special Ops is truly more deserving of the title). The USMC easily engages in short operations because they are mobile and forward deployed on naval vessels and installations. However, they lack a strong logistical backbone when compared to the Army. The Army steps in when a mission will require more time on the ground (Iraq), or a significant logistical requirement is present for a conflict. The Army simply has a better capability to sustain itself. The Marine Corps depends largely on the Navy for much of its support (consider their medics and Chaplains are USN). All that to say that sometimes the USMC goes in first--Liberia, and they were the only ones there. Sometimes it is simultaneous-- Iraq and Afghanistan, though in the latter the Army had significantly more forces. All depends on the mission.

As a matter of a fact... The United States President could deploy Marines and only Marines for 24 hours into any country he feels necessary. After 24 hours he has to remove them if congress doesnt approve it. The Army is not a "fast deployment orginization. But the truth is that the CIA is usually the first in any country before any attack. The Army is okay Im not down talking my brothers in arms. But they are not the first ones in country. They will always have more of a presence in any war but then again they are about 20 times bigger than the Corps. All the services serve the country. Thats really all that matters.

No.

The Marine Corps is generally used in secondary theaters and as a supplement to Army forces.

For example: In WWII the Army fought in Europe (the primary theater) while the Marines fought in the Pacific (the secondary effort). And in the Gulf war the Marines served as little more than a diversion.

Yes the Marines go in first but the reason they are put in secondary theaters is that the army is ni good with the pres and he gives them all the good shot even though they really screw them up so guess who has to come to save them
