I have a 2 year old Malinois that just NEVER seems to get tired. If I throw the ball 100 times, she brings it back 101 times. She also does these insane acrobatics in any attempt to catch the ball. Is there any chance of her hurting herself or does she know her limits?

Its always possible to over exercise and yes she can hurt herself when she flying for the ball,(a.c.l. back neck) If she needs more exercise than try a springer. They attach to a bicycle and to your dog they can't pull you over and the dog can run with you while you get some exercise at the same time if that is not possible get a dog treadmill. I'v had one for the last 15 years and they are GREAT they only cost about $400 and they last a lifetime there GREAT . there is no motor so the dog can go as fast or slow as they want. Easy on the feet and joints and if it rains or to cold or to hot outside to play then the dog can still have his fun and get his exercise at the same time. My dogs love it can't keep them off of it.... HOPE THIS HELPS HAVE A GREAT DAY If you need info contact me on the y

It's possible. That's a breed with a TON of drive to do some kind of work.

If you are worried about her overdoing it, and you want to wear her out a bit, incorporate obedience work into the ball throwing.

Train her to hold a stay after you throw the ball. Train her to stop running when chasing the ball, etc.

A combination of mental and physical exercise can tire her out faster than just physical exercise.

Good luck.

Many herding breeds are driven past the point of ability. They will continue to 'work' regardless of pain or injury. So, yes, you can overwork this dog. They do not know their limits. I would do all your exercising in moderation and build to higher levels. I would NEVER let my dogs do crazy acrobatics to catch a ball. I know many dogs who have been severly injured doing this and of the ones who have not, many are debilitated later in life due to the over-stressing they received when they were younger. You cannot put the burden on the dog to know it's limits, you must be the responsible party in this relationship and make sure you exercise in moderation and do not allow the dog to make moves that put his body at risk.

She'll know when she's had enough.

My dog is the same way. Hell play ball for hours on end until he's ready to drop. Then he'll rest and lay down for half an hour and he's ready to go again.

since she is full grown at 2yrs old she will not injure herself (unless she pulls a tendon or something). congratulations on learning first hand what a "high energy breed" means.

Slow it down a bit. make it 50 throws until she seems more entergetic.

I don't think so. If she is in good condition than keep up what you are doing. Also make sure her hips are xrayed and sound.
