Well,3 lbs in a month sounds a little bit odd,but the best thing you can do is eat healthy low fat meals and snacks. In your last month when you eat fatty foods,a lot of that weight gain actually goes to the baby.
And as far as the delivery, the doctor will tell you if he thinks your body can handle that size.If they think you will need a c-section,please don't sweat it.I have had 2(one of them was with 7 lb and 7lb 1 oz twins) and everything turned out great.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

First, my doctor estimated my daughter's size at over 8 1/2 lbs and 22"....she was born at 7lbs 13oz and 20 1/4". I'm not sure they can be really accurate about the size and length.
Second, your body is made to give birth - you probably know of the most petite women having big babies vaginally and larger women having C-sections for smaller babies. I personally know of a woman that delivered a 10lb 13oz baby boy vaginally. The rate of C-Sections has gone up, in my opinion, that has a lot to do with doctors being afraid of malpractice suits if something goes wrong with long labors.
Your doctor is trying to prepare you for the possibility of a C-section, and you should be prepared, as should every pregnant woman.
I didn't have a C-section myself, but just try to go into the delivery room and let your body take over, it knows what to do (and that won't make sense to you until you're going through it, I know from experience). Hopefully you trust the advice of your doctor, make sure everything is explained to you and you know the risks - you do have a say but of course you don't want to endanger yourself or your baby - but try not to panic. Giving birth for the first time is a very scary prospect I know, because you don't know what to expect. You're just going to have to take this as it comes unfortunately.... good luck!

I had a 9 lbs 10 oz baby completely naturally, without any tearing at all - also my first. It is of course possible for a baby to be too big to deliver vaginally, but it is actually very rare. Although giving birth to such a big baby isn't the most fun thing in the world, it is absolutely possible, so whatever you do DO NOT let your doctor scare you into thinking it isn't. Just watch your diet - eat as healthily as possible. And please, for the sake of your baby, don't let your doctor bully you into an unnecessary early induction or a C-section. Good luck!!!

In teh last month the baby only puts on 1/2 a pound a week. so 3-4 lbs seems excessive. Are you a diabetic?? You could be induced at 38 weeks to avoid a c-section. Ask at your next appointment to see if you have other options.

i measured 3 weeks big the whole pregnancy and ended up delivering 3 weeks early. perhaps they are not as accurate on the due date as they think. don't worry. c-sections are very common, but usually they will let you try pushing for a couple hours before they decide. I have a friends who is teeny, probably 110 lbs. and she had 2 ten lb. babies. either way you'll be fine. just relax, you don't need the extra stress.

HEY...my kid was like 9 pounds 4 opunces, he was a big baby, and when he came I didnt feel a thing...epidurals will make you feel no pain, and I had 4 of them with that one kid.
DO NOT get a csection, you will have a nasty scar that will never go away, plus it looks gruesome I thing. Also if youevr try to get a flat belly, you can forget about it cause the scar will make it look all messed up.
Just get an epidural, I gave birth to a giant baby, and like I said I dint feel anything, I swear.
Plus I have no nasty scar on my belly either. also my kid was 22 inches long at birth!

doc said my second was to big for me. easiest birth so far and 8 1/2 lbs. 3rd doc said no way shes to big your pelvis is to small. fairly easy though long unassisted home birth of a 10 lbs girl.
your pelvis is amazing. often when they say the baby won't fit it means the baby won't fit if we do the delivery our way. your pelvis will open wider if kneeling standing or squatting, and yes, you can deliver in those positions. tell doc to back off. until you actually try you don't know what your body can handle, it might amaze you.
congrats and good luck

First of all, don't be terrified...it doesn't help. We've been doing this stuff for millenia. Now, why not talk to your doctor about inducing labor now?
